It is through their hard work, education, dedication to care, and professionalism that make Kamloops Large Animal Veterinary Clinic the place that it is today.

After graduating, he began working in a mixed animal practice in Maple Creek SK, where he provided veterinary care for cattle and horses. In 1997, Dr. McGillivray moved to Kamloops and began working at the Kamloops Veterinary Clinic. For the better part of a quarter century, Dr. McGillivray has worked exclusively with cattle and horses, with a special interest in cow/calf herd health and production medicine. He is also deeply ingrained in the cattle industry as a member of the B.C. Cattlemen’s Association and local 4-H programs. Jason and his family also maintain their own herd of Black Angus cows and small flock of Dorset cross sheep.

Upon moving to Canada from the UK as a child, Dr. Kerry Dyson spent much of her childhood riding reining horses. After high school, she completed her bachelor’s degree in Biology from UBC Okanagan before pursuing her Veterinary degree in New Zealand. In addition to her studies, she also spent time working for multiple dairies as well as on beef, sheep, and venison/velvet farms to further expand her experience and knowledge base. Upon graduation, she returned to Canada to complete a 16-month rotating internship at Moore Equine in Calgary Alberta. Dr. Dyson then brought the extensive knowledge she gained in surgery, neonatology, internal medicine, sports medicine, and reproductive management to our very own Kamloops Large Animal Veterinary Clinic.

As a student volunteer, you will have the opportunity to shadow a designated veterinarian and observe their appointments. You may be called upon to assist in certain situations, help with preparation of appointments or help clean up after an appointment. If the hospital is extremely busy you may be called upon to help with the care of patients, including cleaning stalls, feeding, watering, walking patients, restocking exam rooms or cleaning gear. If there are no appointments, you may be asked to help with general duties of the hospital area. We will try to have you experience all aspects of the daily activities within the practice. You may be able to ride along with the veterinarian and assistant out in the field. As a volunteer you need to be prepared to work both inside and outside in varying weather conditions, proper footwear, clothing, jacket are required. We also advise packing lunch and something to drink in case you are out in the field all day.
